I'm going to try to read through Pope Benedict's second volume on Jesus of Nazareth during the remainder of Lent and Holy Week. I'll try to post a few more quotes as I move through the book. To begin with, though, I was struck by this line from the book's Forward:
"The quest for the 'historical Jesus', as conducted in mainstream critical exegesis in accordance with its hermeneutical presuppositions, lacks sufficient content to exert any significant historical impact."
